In Name of Sorrow and Hope
2014-2018
In this project, In the name of sorrow and hope, grief is secular and spiritual emotion.
This tradition is a local lamentation or eulogy to express the sad emotion through poetry and of the cross chest-beating which practice between Iranians in the Southern part of Iran. Clapping is a sign of joy and the thumping of the chest is a sign of sadness. Performing the painful, intense rituals increases social bonds. Pain is as real as love and hope and sadness. For me, who lost the people I loved most during the war of Iran and Iraq, mourning isn't an event; it was a state of mind, always there, shifting forward, retreating, always growing, like the shadows that move across my aging face. The picture depicts the apocalypse and shows the black symbol of humanity once a person can be buried with his companions all at once.
